NIOSH is involved in a range of occupational safety and health activities including surveillance, research and technology transfer. One sector they sponsored is involving Agriculture, Farming and Fishing. They have identified health risks and worked to minimize them by focusing on work safety, prevention, and education. The main goals of the sector are reductions in illnesses, injuries and fatalities, as well as improvements to health and well-being. For example, a goal to reduce a workplace hazardous exposure might contribute to reducing both cancer and adverse reproductive outcomes. This wouldn't effect my line of work, but it could effect me though what I eat. This safety sector within NIOSH is helping to reduce health hazards in our food wether it is coming from the ocean or farm.

Jordan,
ReplyDeleteI would imagine those industries are prone to a lot more work accidents due to the nature of their jobs, compared to someone who just sits inside all day. But hopefully the enforcement is happening because like some of the materials we read, explained how there are reasons why certain workers won't say anything as to risk losing their jobs.
Hi Jordan,
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that this organization focus a lot on those industries, they seem to be ones that could be more prone to accidents. I also think it is great that you mentioned that this organization wants to stop hazardous exposure.
